March · Perennials

Planting perennials in spring

Wait until soil is workable and night frosts ease. Water in well, mulch lightly, and watch drying winds common on open Kuřim plots. Sun labels on our benches match how each cultivar was grown.

April · Vegetables

Seedlings after hardening

Our starts leave the greenhouse only after outdoor nights. Plant lettuce and kohlrabi earlier; wait for warmer soil before peppers and tomatoes. Water at the base to reduce leaf scorch.

May · Balcony

Troughs that last the season

Mix trailing and upright plants, keep drainage clear, and feed every two weeks once flowering begins. Morning sun with afternoon shade suits many geraniums on west-facing Brno flats.

September · Fruit

Autumn is for fruit trees

Plant while soil is still warm. Stake young trees against wind, water deeply once, and mulch without piling against the stem. Ask us about pollination partners for apples and pears.

Spring and early autumn are ideal. Container-grown stock can go in whenever the ground is not frozen or waterlogged — water thoroughly after planting.

Many geraniums, thyme and some begonias cope well. Tell us the compass direction of your flat and we will pick a mix that will not wilt by midsummer.
